As well as investing in school places, Surrey has directed funding into raising school standards and attainment can now boast that over 80% of the County’s state schools are outstanding or good.*

Statistics show that of the 384 schools the County Council is responsible for, 313 were given the top two grades; 100 schools were judged to be outstanding and another 213 were rated as good. More than 9 out of 10 Surrey pupils now attend a state secondary school rated outstanding or good.

And there’s more: official GCSE figures also confirm that just over two-thirds of pupils achieved five or more A*-C grades (or equivalent qualification) including English and Maths, compared to 60% nationally, confirming Surrey’s place in the top 15 performers in England.

Linda Kemeny, Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Learning, said: “These figures demonstrate that Surrey continues to have some of the best performing state schools in the country. Surrey is by far the largest authority to be ranked in the top 15 and is further evidence of the high standard of education across the county.”

Surrey County Council Leader David Hodge added:

“My ambition is to raise the standard of all Surrey Schools to the highest possible levels so that every Surrey child can leave school achieving the best possible qualifications and start to life.”
