Surrey County Council has secured £2.5 million Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding from Elmbridge Borough Council for road improvements in Weybridge. The total cost of the improvements is estimated as £5 million, with the remaining funds being provided by Surrey County Council.

The proposed improvements to the roads include introducing a 20mph zone in the centre, resurfacing the high street, decluttering and resurfacing the pavements, adding a new pedestrian crossing and improving existing crossings. In addition, on street infrastructure such as bus stops, street lighting, road markings and signage will be updated and improved.

All the suggested improvements are currently being consulted on so residents can view the plans in detail and leave their feedback on the dedicated website weybetterweybridge.commonplace.is .The consultation will be open until the end of February.

Tim Oliver, Surrey County Council Leader and Divisional Member for Weybridge, said, “Weybridge has been an Air Quality Management Area for 15 years, with high levels of pollution and congestion, especially in the town centre. These much-needed improvements will help to improve the area for pedestrians and cyclists. We welcome residents’ feedback on the current proposals.”

The works are planned to start this summer and will be done in a phased approach, to minimise disruption, over approximately 24 months.
