Surrey County Council’s Conservative Group has bucked the national trend and increased its majority by 3 seats, bringing the total number of Conservative Councillors at SCC up to 58.
In fact, Surrey’s Conservatives were the only ruling Conservative administration in the country to increase their numbers at these elections, which proved to be a significant endorsement of the Conservative Leadership of the County.
David Hodge, Leader of the Conservative Group, said ‘Throughout my time as Leader, we have always listened to our residents and at all times acted with their best interests in mind.
We’re incredibly proud that we are:
• Investing £100m in Highways to carry out essential repairs and resurfacing;
• Investing £261m to provide 12,000 additional school places;
• Investing £10m to raise standards of educational attainment at all Surrey Schools;
• Supporting elderly people to enable them to remain in their homes longer;
• Creating 500 apprenticeships to give opportunities to our young people;
• Investing £1m to support the Community Improvement Fund;
• Investing £20m to enable all residents and local businesses to have Superfast Broadband;
• Protecting all 52 public libraries in Surrey;
• Saving £279m by 2016 through value for money and efficiency initiatives.
We are delighted that Surrey residents agree with us and we thank them for the confidence they have placed in us. We have had some tough choices to make, but we have always taken the right decision in the interests of the people of Surrey, to stay even stronger and more prosperous in the future.’
